Marilyn Newman - Chairman
Marilyn Newman founded At Home in 1982 as a quaint deli in Cobham, Surrey—the embodiment of a simple idea: that people should be able to pick up everything from gourmet hors d’oeuvres to exquisite desserts and proudly serve them as their own. As word spread, customers began asking not only for the food, but for it to be delivered and served in style. The name “At Home” took on new meaning as Marilyn and the team started transforming living rooms, gardens and marquees into intimate restaurants, curating events in the comfort of people’s homes.
What began in Cobham soon grew to include major occasions—right up to high-profile events such as the BRIT Awards—yet Marilyn’s focus has never changed: creativity, personalisation and exacting standards. Four decades on, she continues to champion the same mission—to make every occasion uniquely memorable and ensure everyone feels right at home—while inviting clients to be part of the next chapter in the At Home story.

Oscar has been a dedicated member of the At Home Catering team for over 10 years, bringing a wealth of experience and passion to every event. As a chef, he naturally gravitates towards the saucier station—the busiest and most demanding part of the kitchen. He thrives on the intensity, the coordination required to keep timing tight across multiple tickets, and the precision needed to execute consistently. It’s where he feels most locked in and connected to the energy of the kitchen.
For Oscar, maintaining high food standards begins long before service starts. He believes in discipline during prep and clear communication at every stage. Every cook is briefed on the exact specifications for each dish, from ingredients, portion sizes, and seasoning levels to cooking times and plating presentation. He uses detailed recipe cards, photos, and plating guides to ensure expectations are clear and results are consistent, no matter the size or scale of the event.
Efficiency is another cornerstone of his work. He emphasises the importance of staying tidy and organised with a clear mindset, always double-checking numbers to avoid unnecessary repetition. Every item is labelled clearly, ensuring nothing is overlooked in the heat of a busy service.
One of Oscar’s most memorable moments at At Home Catering was catering a 70th birthday celebration where the client envisioned their garden transformed into a pub for the evening. Working alongside the event planner, the team brought the concept to life, delivering a full à la carte service in a unique and vibrant setting. For Oscar, it was a perfect example of the creativity, teamwork, and dedication that define At Home Catering.
